Seafood Task Force Welcomes First Indonesian Member

The Seafood Task Force (STF), a leading trade association that represents members of global tuna and shrimp supply chains, has further expanded its activities across the Asia Pacific with the addition of Mega Marine Pride. Its first Indonesian member.

Founded in 2014, the STF brings together the world’s largest retailers, seafood brands and their seafood partners, serving more than 350 million customers globally, helping them to drive supply chain oversight and continuous improvement from vessel to plate.

Members are working to produce fully traceable, ethically produced and environmentally responsible seafood, meeting international social and environmental standards and growing due diligence requirements.

Mega Marine Pride, a family-owned Indonesian business with over 40 years of experience in seafood processing and farming, employs more than 3,000 staff across its processing facilities. The company maintains various international certifications including ASC and BAP, demonstrating its ongoing commitment to responsible practices in both social and food safety aspects.

Indonesia, the world's largest archipelago with over 90,000 islands, has great potential for sustainable seafood production. Its long coastline is ideal for aquaculture, but remote areas face infrastructure challenges, making seafood processing and farming more difficult. These geographical challenges highlight the importance of working with an organisation such as the STF because all members must provide an annual self-declaration of their supply chain mapping, risk assessment and traceability work, which allows the STF members to share trends and identify best practices.

Adi Dewanto, Executive Director of Mega Marine Pride, commented:

Joining the Seafood Task Force is a big step in our effort to support and grow Indonesia's seafood industry. As both processors and farmers, we know how important it is to keep high standards across our supply chain. I look forward to working with the STF to tackle these challenges while promoting responsible practices and I hope that as the STF’s first-ever Indonesian member we can encourage others to follow in our stead.

STF Executive Director, Martin Thurley said:

“We are pleased to welcome Mega Marine Pride as our first Indonesian member, further growing our presence in Southeast Asia. Indonesia plays a crucial role in global seafood production, making this partnership especially pertinent. Their membership will add invaluable country-specific insights as well as extensive industry experience to the Task Force as we continue to make progress on worker rights, conversion-free farmed shrimp, and sustainable sourcing across supply chains.”

Mega Marine Pride is also working closely with Indonesia's Directorate General of Strengthening the Competitiveness of Marine Fishery Products. The collaboration comes at a crucial time for Indonesia's seafood industry, which faces growing international scrutiny and evolving regulatory requirements. As such, the STF alongside buyer members and processors want to organise a stakeholder meeting in Indonesia in 2025. This will be done in conjunction with Mega Marine Pride and existing members like Grobest Indomakmur, buyer members sourcing shrimp from Indonesia and WWF Indonesia.
